Mercedes-AMG GT R design disclosed before its premiere


The design of the brand new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R has been declassified before the official premiere. The photos of the car were published by Carscoops. The official debut of the car will be on June 24th. The car will be launched under the brand name of Mercedes-AMG and ranged between the AMG GT S and Black Series AMG GT. The main competitor of the newcomer will be the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The production of Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R will be set up at the factory in Sindelfingen (Germany).

The exterior appearance of the car will resemble racing Mercedes-AMG GT3. Sports car will get a large air intake vent, flared wheel arches, new bumpers, side skirts, a large rear wing and rear diffuser. The sports car's ground effects are made of carbon fiber. Due to this, the car's weight is reduced by about 60 kg in comparison with the standard version. According to preliminary data, the weight of the two-seater sports car will average out at 1520 kilograms.

GT R ​​will be supplied with the upgraded 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine. The same engine with 503 hp is mounted in AMG GT S. However, after the update, the engine’s output is to be increased up to 585 horsepower.

The public debut of the standard Mercedes-AMG GT was held at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. The car replaced the coupe SLS AMG. The Germans themselves call this model "an everyday sports car".
